When Cegne started out in the fashion business, he didn’t have his own sewing machine. He manually stitched the gowns and dresses for his clients until he saved a sum of money to buy a portable sewing machine. Today, he is dressing up beauty queens in different prestigious pageants including Ms. Earth and Ms. Intercontinental. His designs were also worn by celebrities such as Alden Richards, Morisette, Gary Valenciano, Keana Valenciano, Jameson Blake, and Matt Evans. His creations were showcased in prestigious fashion shows and won numerous awards including the recent Fashion Designer of the Year (Asia) 2021 at the Fashion Art Media Awards 2021 during the Aberdeen Scotland Fashion Week.

Christopher Glaraga Egne, commonly known as “Chris Egne”, is the founder of Cegne Designs and Cegne Eau De Parfum. Chris’ journey in fashion started as early as 9 years old. Young Chris would watch and assist his two grandmothers who were both fashion designers and dressmakers. According to him, his grandmothers taught and molded him the discipline and skills a fashion designer should acquire. Chris believes that these skills and his humbleness have brought him a long way.

"At an early age, instead of playing the usual toys, my toys were scissors, needles, threads, and mannequins. I create dresses out of leftover fabrics. From then on, until I grew up, I applied this training until I formed my own brand. I love the things I do."

Chris landed several jobs as a fashion designer assistant for a couple of years until he got the chance to work in a luxurious cruise ship called “The World” in 2009. His work there include being an international florist and steward. The ship’s residents would always be delighted with Chris’ work every time he turns fresh flowers into a dream bouquet arrangement. After his cruise ship stint, he worked in a furniture company in Pampanga for 6 years. Although Chris loves his furniture and floral designs and creations, Chris’ heart has always been in the fashion industry. He learned so much from his journey and thinks that it is meant to lead him to where he is right now.

Along with his ready-to-wear designs, Chris is accepting made-to-order gowns and dresses. The Cegne Designs brand offers high fashion casual and formal wear which can be used on different occasions. Cegne Designs aim to achieve high quality, yet affordable, not sacrificing the elements of couture and comfort. According to Chris, he can do on-the-spot sketches based on his interview with his clients.

Last November 6, Chris showcased his designs by dressing up the contestants at The Hari ng Pilipinas 2021 wearing his formal and high-fashion creations.

"I'm hands-on and I focus on the gowns and dresses I make and make sure it is based on customer's taste and style. Customers nowadays are fashionably aware of a good eye for design and tend to incorporate artistic craftsmanship and tasteful design into their daily lives."

Chris is the President of the Fashion Designers League of the Philippines (FDLP) which began from the collaboration of various designers during Miss Earth 2019 Beauty Pageant. He encourages, motivates, and helps aspiring young Filipino designers to achieve their dreams. They held a bridal show in Greenhills featuring their designs and supporting Filipino designer startups last November 14.

FDLP is exhibiting bridal and debut gowns at the Greenhills Mall, San Juan City, from November 5 to 30, 2021. Chris is encouraging everyone to come, visit and witness their Debut and Evening Gown Fashion Show to be held on November 30, 2021 6pm at The Greenhills Mall.

"I encourage the young generation to look back on how you started. Remember those people who helped you achieve you dreams. Never be dismayed or be frustrated by the challenges coming your way. Thru this, it will help you be a better person and will lead you to success. As a fashion designer, I believe that it is possible to wear beautiful creations without spending too much. Beautiful creations are not based on expensive materials, they're based on the right execution, comfort followed by one's own style."
